What kind of photographs do they make?
Pinhole cameras make black and white photographs, they are not always very clear and often things like trees are not very obvious however overall the look really cool. What materials/tools might you need to make a pinhole camera? To make a pinhole camera you would need; -a pin -a light tight box -tinfoil -film/photography paper -something that can cover and uncover the pinhole -tape. |
What do they look like?
Pinhole cameras come in many different shapes and sizes, majority of pinhole cameras come in a cube/rectangular shape, at the front of the box there is a very small hole and just above it is a wooden flap that can be moved to cover or uncover the hole. Inside it is pitch black and at the back, inside the box is photography paper or film however as I said before they can come in many different shapes and sizes so as long as there is a hole, a cover, it is pitch black inside and you have film or photography paper in the box you can make a pinhole camera. How do they work? Once you've placed your pinhole camera on a flat surface you expose the hole to the light for about ten seconds, then you cover the hole again. You then take the film/photography paper out of the camera and develop it. The picture will always develop upside because as the light hits the film it crosses over and therefore flips it upside down. How are they made? A pinhole is punched or drilled into a piece of tinfoil. This is then stuck to the inside of a light tight box behind a hole which as been cut into the box. Film/photography paper is then placed inside the back of the box. |
